Managing changes to your LPA

Learn about how to revoke your LPA, situations that cancel an LPA, and updating your or your Donee’s personal details.

Revoking your LPA

As the Donor, you can revoke your registered LPA at any time, as long as you still have the mental capacity to do so.

A registered LPA may be automatically revoked if:

  • the Donee passes away

  • you apply for a new LPA

  • you or your Donee is declared bankrupt — this only revokes the LPA for matters related to property and affairs

  • you and your Donee divorce or have your marriage annulled (unless the LPA states otherwise)

  • your Donee loses mental capacity

  • your Donee (as a corporation) is liquidated, wound up, dissolved, or placed under judicial management

How to revoke your LPA

Step number 1

Complete and sign the Revocation Form

Download the Revocation form
Step number 2

Send the completed form by email or post

Send the completed Revocation Form and a copy of your NRIC or passport to the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) via:

Office of the Public Guardian

3 Bishan Place #03-00 CPF Bishan Building, Singapore 579838

Note : OPG may also require you to provide further information or more documents before cancelling your LPA.

Step number 3

Inform your Donee(s) with a written notice

You must give written notice to every Donee that you’re revoking the LPA through 1 of these ways:

  • delivering it personally ,

  • sending it via post to their latest postal address. If the postal address is not known, send it to their latest email address.

Step number 4

Pay the revocation fee of $28 online

OPG will send you instructions to make an online payment of $28 before processing your revocation form.

When will an LPA be cancelled?

Your registered LPA will be cancelled if:

  • your only Donee loses their decision powers, and you did not appoint a Replacement Donee

  • a Donee loses their decision powers, you've instructed all your Donees to act jointly, and you did not appoint a Replacement Donee

  • you pass on

Your Donee will lose their powers to decide on your Personal Welfare and Property and Affairs matters if they:

  • inform the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) that they do not wish to be your Donee anymore

  • are married to you and subsequently divorce or have the marriage annulled

  • lose mental capacity

  • pass on

  • are removed by the court

The court may remove your Donee if they are abusing their powers, not acting in your best interests (for example, abuse or neglect), or have pressured you to make the LPA.

Your Donee can also lose their powers to decide on your property and affairs if they:

  • become bankrupt

  • are a licensed trust company that has liquidated or is under judicial management

What to do if your Donee loses their decision powers

Inform OPG by sending the following documents, where applicable, by email or post:

  • a copy of the divorce or annulment papers

  • a copy of the medical report stating that the Donee has lost mental capacity

  • a copy of the Donee's death certificate

  • the original registered LPA

  • all certified copies of the LPA

  • a return address where your documents can be sent back to:

Office of the Public Guardian

3 Bishan Place #03-00 CPF Bishan Building, Singapore 579838

Your LPA will be cancelled if all situations apply:

  • 1 of your Donees loses their decision powers.

  • Your Donees have been appointed to act jointly.

  • You did not appoint a replacement Donee.

If you have a replacement Donee or another Donee with the powers to act jointly and severally, your LPA will remain valid. OPG will update the LPA to reflect the changes and notify you and your Donees.

Your LPA will automatically be cancelled when you pass on. This is because an LPA can only be used if you have lost mental capacity. This means that your Donee or Donees will not have any powers to decide on your matters after your death.

Updating your or your Donee’s details

If any of these details change for yourself or your Donee, please inform the relevant agencies.

Allow 1 to 3 working days for your details to be verified and updated by the respective agencies. Once completed, your updated details will be available on Myinfo when creating a new LPA draft.

If you want to remove or change a Donee, you will need to revoke your registered LPA and make a new one.
