Important to-dos

Register your child's birth within 42 days of their birth date

Depending on your child’s eligibility, you can also apply for Baby Bonus, make your Shared Parental Leave (SPL) arrangements and sign up for your child’s library membership.

Once enrolled successfully in the Baby Bonus scheme, your child will be automatically transitioned to the SG Child Support Package .

Births overseas are not registered in Singapore. Register with local authorities where your child was born, to obtain the birth certificate.

Download your child's digital birth certificate within 90 days

Via ICA's e-Service , once birth registration is done. Save it on your personal device for future use.

Apply for your child's passport

Via MyICA mobile app or ICA's e-Service , using your Singpass. Passport fee is waived for Singaporean children’s first passport if the application is made before the child’s first birthday.

If your child is not a Singapore Citizen, you must apply for a passport from the Embassy or High Commission of their nationality and the appropriate immigration pass within 42 days of their birth, for their stay in Singapore.

Set up your child's CDA and CSA

After your Baby Bonus application is successful, you’ll receive instructions via email and the LifeSG app to open your child’s Child Development Account (CDA). The Child Savings Account (CSA) opens automatically together with CDA.

You must use the same bank selected during the Baby Bonus application to open your child's CDA.

Decide on SPL arrangements with your spouse

Eligible working parents share 10 weeks of SPL, split between you and your spouse 5 weeks each by default during birth registration. You can manage your SPL sharing arrangements to change this initial split.
